Amandine Lauro is a Research Associate of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research at the Université libre de Bruxelles, where she teaches African, gender and colonial history. Her research focuses on the history of gender, sexuality and social regulation in colonial contexts, particularly in the former Belgian colonial empire (Congo, Rwanda, Burundi). She has worked and published on interracial sexuality, imperial sexual politics, prostitution, the policing of racial boundaries and the origins of HIV. She is currently working on a project on the history of sexual violence in Central Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries. She is the co-editor of the journal Sextant since 2017.
