Call for projects in open access publishing at Éditions de l'Université de Bruxelles (ÉUB)

The ULB and the Department of Libraries and Scientific Information support Fair Open Access and have implemented a budget to support efforts towards sustainable open access scientific publishing in accordance with the principles of Fair Open Access. By creating a fund to support Fair Open Access initiatives, the ULB supports, among other efforts, the publication of open access books by Éditions de l'Université de Bruxelles (ÉUB). ÉUB is the publishing house of the Université libre de Bruxelles. Since its creation in 1972, it has developed a rich catalogue of more than 520 titles covering the main disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, mathematics and statistics. Each year, the ÉUB publishes between 20 and 30 new titles.

Are you a researcher at ULB - or attached to ULB - and do you have an editorial project that you would like to publish via open access in 2025?

Then answer the call by meeting the following criteria:

  1. Be an author attached to the ULB
  2. Propose an original manuscript ready for publication (maximum length of the manuscript : 750.000 characters including spaces)
  3. Propose a manuscript targeted to one of our existing collections, with the exception of 'Débats' and 'UBlire'; the proposed manuscript may not be used as a course textbook
  4. Not have prior funding for open access publication
  5. Be able to justify the relevance of an open access publication

The application package must contain :

  • A CV of the author(s)/editor(s) of the publication
  • A one-page synopsis of the work and its originality, particularly in relation to existing work in the field
  • A table of contents
  • A justification for the open access publication of the work
  • The complete and final manuscript - If it contains images, these must be free of copyright or have obtained permission for publication in paper and electronic form

Applications will be examined and validated by the ÉUB Editorial Committee. If necessary, funding will be provided in the order of submission, within the limits of the available budget. All applications will be peer-reviewed like any other project submitted to ÉUB.

The full application should be sent by email to editions@ulb.be

Deadline: 13 January 2025

The EUB assists authors desiring to publish their work in open access (monograph or edited collection), or are required to do so in compliance with the Open Access stipulations of their funding agency (H2020/ERC). In the latter case, publication costs can be supported by said agency.

The book can be published under a Creative Commons license and the author might thus post it on any website or open archive for non profit purposes.

The EUB initiate partnerships with large international Open Access platforms such as Oapen.org as a means of increasing the visibility and broadening the distribution of titles published in Open Access. Discover the entire catalogue of publications available in open access at the EUB.
