Gregor Schwarb

Gregor Schwarb (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich) studied theology, philosophy and Jewish studies in Freiburg (CH), Jerusalem and Damascus. His research centers on trans-denominational intellectual thought in the pre-modern Islamicate world with a focus on Mu'tazilī and Zaydī kalām, traditions of falsafa in (Judaeo-)Arabic and Hebrew, Qaraite Judaism, Arabic and Hebrew Manuscript Studies, and the Firkóvič Collections. A selection of his numerous publications is available at Between 2004 and 2013 he promoted a series of research projects within the Muʿtazilite Manuscripts Project and the Research Unit Intellectual History of the Islamicate World at Freie Universität Berlin. Since autumn 2021 he acts as senior research associate within the ERC funded project MAJLIS (The Transformation of Jewish Literature in Arabic in the Islamicate World).
