Prof. Dr. Monique Weis is a Senior Research Fellow of the Belgian Research Fund (FNRS). She teaches at the Université libre de Bruxelles in the department of Religious Studies. She specializes in the political and religious history of Early Modern Europe, as well as in the history of ideas from the 16th to the 18th century. She is particularly interested in the study of polemic writings (in English, French, Dutch and German) written and published in contexts of confessional strife. The reception of the Renaissance and the 16th century in the arts, literature and historiography is also one of her points of interest. Monique Weis is a former director of the CIERL, the research centre on Religious Studies and Secularism at the ULB, as well as a former president of Babel, the Belgian Association for the Study of Religions (member of the European Association for the Study of Religions).
